Pelvic Surface Geometry and soft tissue stiffness influence the force attenuation provided by hip protectors This article underlines the importance of standardised test method for hip protector performance testing. A number of important test parameters have been varied in a test setup, resulting in different performance results. An example is the stiffness of the simulated soft tissue, for very soft tissue hard hip protectors provides less force reduction compared to soft hip protectors, whereas stiffer tissue shifts the performance. In order to have a reliable test simulation of a hip impact, this article underlines the fact that there is a need for accurate and reliable documented data of soft tissue stiffness, the geometry of the hip etc. |
